What an Achievment! On Saturday
23rd of June, the girls of Joydens Wood School swimming team (Katie
Lobley, Nancy Mawhood, Lauren MacDonald (White Oak) and Miren Elphick
(Dartford) swam in theFinals of the Primary School National Swimming
Championships, in Sheffield. They competed in Mixed Stroke Relay,
in which there were 4 heats. The top 16 schools were entered into
the finals on the day, whichwere then split down to 8 teams for
the A final & 8 teams for the B final. The girls made it easily
into the 8 teams in the A final and swam like they had never swum
before. At the end of the race, the team came 5th which is a remarkable
accomplishment considering the number of schools that were taking
part. This means that they are the 5th fastest team for the mixed
stroke relay nationally with a final time of 1.08.26 - splits Nancy
17.99, Katie 20.11, Miren 15.71& Lauren 14.45.
Congratulations to the team for all of the achievments they have made
over the last few months. Also a big thank you to the parents and
family that have supported these girls on this fantastic journey.

Fight
to save Dartford College Pool
Local papers have published the story of how campaigners are fighting
to save Dartford College swimming pool. Click
here to read the full report. Thanks to all those who signed the
petition. The Dartford MP Dr Howard Stoate has writen to all the signitories,
saying: "I am pleased to be able to tell you that Sport England
has agreed, following my intervention, to contribute a third of the
money for the refurbishment work that is needed to keep the pool open.
This is excellent news as I am sure you will agree, and I am delighted
to have been able to play a part in helping to secure this money.
The challenge now is to find other agencies that are willing to provide
the remaining two-thirds of the money needed for the pool's refurbishment.
I will be writing therefore to Dartford Borough Council and Kent County
Council, which are the primary providers of sport and leisure services
in the Dartford area, to press them make a contribution to the work
given the vital importance of the pool to the local community.
I will write to you again as soon as I have any more news. "
Kent County Championships
